In Flight by Noelle Adams

ABOUT THE BOOK

Flying from Savannah to Boston every weekend for two months to help my sister with her upcoming wedding would be fine if it weren’t for the obnoxious airplane guy. He has a job in Savannah for a few months and flies home to Boston every weekend, so he’s always on my flights.

Even that might be tolerable if he didn’t always choose the seat right beside me. But he won’t move, and neither will I. So now we’re stuck. Side by side for flight after flight.

After flight.

So what if he’s kind of attractive? And softer than he pretends? His life is in Boston, and mine is not. His career is his priority, and the happy, secure world I’ve worked hard to build for myself in Savannah is mine.

So he’s still the obnoxious airplane guy to me, and no matter how often our paths might cross, that’s all he can ever be.

MY REVIEW

I enjoyed the idea of two stubborn opposites sharing a space on a short flight each week unaware it will change their lives forever.

River is adorable and kind who somehow ends up sitting next to the most infuriating man week after week.  She’s friendly, open, and gets along with basically everyone except for Isaac. At first, it looks like they have absolutely nothing in common. I mean, it’s almost comical the way they seem to clash in every possible interaction. But as the story unfolds, River begins to look forward to their weekly meetings, and just like that, the dynamic starts to shift.

Isaac is the kind of man who keeps everything bottled up so he comes across as arrogant and unlikeable. I admit he takes some getting used to, but he makes some sacrifices for River that had me changing my mind about him.

The back-and-forth between River and Isaac had me feeling all sorts of frustrated, especially since the book’s length seemed to stretch out their intense relationship longer than necessary. I get the appeal of angst, but sometimes I need a smooth ride to the happily-ever-after. And when they finally get it together? Well, that’s when the third-act breakup hits. You’d think after the tension and buildup, I would get a decent amount of time basking in their love story. But the author chose to leave me hanging, and it felt like I had barely blinked before the romance was wrapped up.

Overall, this enemies-to-lovers story has its delightful moments, but I wish there were a little more time for the happy ending. If you enjoy seeing how opposites attract, and you’re prepared for some angst, then you might want to check this one out.

Thank you to Ms. Adams for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
