MY REVIEW
This book. I love it, mean it! Where do I even begin with this delightful romp through Blushing, Alaska? Laura Pavlov has served up a laugh-out-loud heartfelt romantic comedy that grabbed me from the start. I’m a sucker for a book that has me giggling one moment and feeling all the emotions the next, and trust me when I say, Love You, Mean It is a total winner.
Violet is a fiercely independent and hilariously relatable female lead. Say goodbye to burnt pizza rolls and hello to her hilarious adventures, from the chaos of student field day dodgeball and a family wedding from hell to her ongoing battle with her grumpy yet handsome landlord. Seriously, who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers romance? Charlie, the rugged contractor and single dad of adorable little Harper, is the moody male lead you didn’t know you needed in your life. He’s an incredible dad and a cinnamon roll MMC ready to pull his hair out thanks to Violet’s unyielding sass. And let me tell you, the chemistry between these two is enough to short-circuit your brain!
Violet isn’t just a badass heroine; she’s a woman wearing a lifetime of rejection like a badge of honor. Abandonment from her father? Check. Alcoholic mother? Double check. A toxic stepfamily? You get the idea. Violet’s heart is huge as she takes the abuse and helps them anyway. But wait till you see Violet take charge of her life by standing up to the bullies. It’s hella satisfying! This girl loves her chosen family—the supportive stepsiblings, her close friends Montana and Blakely, and especially little Harper, who’s taken an immediate shining to Violet. Speaking of that shining, Charlie gives Violet the nickname of Firefly which had me smiling each time he used it.
Charlie and Harper are a package deal, and their dynamics are so painfully sweet that you’ll find yourself grinning through the pages. Charlie’s salty charm and dedication to being the best dad ever will melt even the coldest of hearts. And can we take a moment to appreciate how he has a tattoo of Harper on his chest? It’s the ultimate fatherly love! Harper is seven years old and wise beyond her years. She’s the adorable glue that binds this story together. Imagine having your birthday planned by Violet; that Pinkalicious Birthday Party? I’m already RSVP-ing!
Violet and Charlie’s story is as real as it gets. It’s packed with the kind of humor that makes you snort and the kinds of heartfelt moments that tug at your heartstrings. You won’t want to miss out on all the laugh-out-loud moments, the sweet interactions, and the unforgettable side characters, good and bad, that round out this fantastic tale.
I highly recommend you grab a copy and experience Blushing, Alaska for yourself. You can’t help but feel charmed by this adorable little town filled with quirky characters including a moose affectionately known as Clifford Wellhung. LOL!
