MY REVIEW
I was hooked from the very beginning! The suspense, sexual tension, and running-for-your-life themes are a great combo in Nikki Sloane’s rewritten novel Stay With Me. I couldn’t put it down.
The story kicks off with an exciting debut ballet performance that spirals into chaos with a gunshot piercing the air and a camera flash. How upsetting that when trying to help a dying man, Laurel may lose her dream of becoming a ballerina. I admire that she refuses to be beaten down by her circumstances and will do anything to catch the hunter who has her in his sights, even use herself as bait. Who knew that in this mess, she would find a man who would protect her at any cost?
Marshal Jason Dunn is assigned to Laurel’s protection detail, and he’s gobsmacked by his attraction to the stubborn dancer. I was really intrigued to learn that Jason has this wild, risky side that totally matches the danger they’re facing. In addition, his struggle to express his feelings adds layers to his character, making him more than just the guy with a badge. His internal conflict is palpable. He knows that his job is to keep Laurel safe, but there’s an undeniable chemistry simmering between them that complicates everything.
The tension between Jason and Laurel is electric. The plot is packed with twists and turns that had me biting my nails in suspense and cheering for this riveting pair. As they navigate a world where everyone seems to be missing or dead, the stakes couldn’t be higher, culminating in a heart-wrenching goodbye at the airport that left me unsettled and wondering what will happen next.
The danger lurking throughout the story comes to a head at the end, which explains the prologue at the start of the book. It’s a long time coming, but with Laurel’s courage and Jason’s grit, they find a happy ending.
So, if you’re looking for a gripping read that combines danger, passion, and sacrificing one’s life for what we love, this book should be at the top of your list. I am excited to dive into Kara and Shawn’s story next. The hostility between them is going to be thrilling to watch.
