The Scent of Crazy (Red Flags #1) by D.A. Valerian

ABOUT THE BOOK

She set the trap. He walked in smiling, convinced he was the hunter.

SUMMER
I manipulate.
I deceive.
I seduce.
I steal.
I kill.
I’m not a bad person!

And I’m definitely not a stalker, though some could argue that shadowing Atlas Holt and his friends for months, casing his business, or measuring him in his sleep out of boredom is the definition of stalking. I call it preparation.

I need Atlas’s love as a means to a blood-soaked end. But playing carefully curated, sick and twisted games with this delusional psycho is pushing me dangerously close to the trap I set.

Simple plans rarely stay simple.

ATLAS
Summer Night is like a rollercoaster: exhilarating, unpredictable, and every once in a while, it leaves me wondering if it’s passed the routine maintenance and I’d be getting off alive. That only makes me want her more.

Whether her ways of flirting would land me in a straitjacket or a grave is not the real question.

Who is she, and how many body bags does her real name drag behind it?

Hopefully, fewer than mine does.

I have a feeling the truth won’t just hurt.

It will kill.

MY REVIEW

He’s ready to play. But he doesn’t know whose game this is.

Ms. Valerian’s debut novel is fabulous! I love a strong woman who knows how to take care of herself and a devoted man who stands with her even when she is hiding something. Summer and Atlas are definitely made for each other, with their twisted minds and intense attraction.

Atlas may come off as a tough playboy, but trust me, he’s a cinnamon roll for Summer. He’s got that whole brooding, obsessive, bad-boy vibe down, and don’t you dare look at his woman. Summer is a fierce heroine who won’t let anyone push her around. She’s out to avenge her family, and no one will get in her way. Their dynamic is electric, filled with playful banter, secrets, and scorching chemistry.

But it’s not just Atlas and Summer who make this book a must-read. The side characters are just as captivating. Raven and Link’s story brewing in the background has me on the edge of my seat, but it’s Dean who has my attention. Plus, I’m eagerly anticipating more from Connor and Carter. Each character adds a unique flavor to the narrative, making it rich and super enjoyable.

Ms. Valerian’s writing is engaging and hooked me immediately. I felt attached to Summer’s story, and when her secret was revealed, I cried for her loss. The buildup to the ending was crazy good, and the happily-ever-after with a hint of the next book is promising.

Overall, if you’re in the mood for a story that combines dark humor, tension, and karma at its best, grab your copy of this book and prepare for a wild ride. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Thank you to Ms. Valerian for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

D.A. Valerian’s keyboard bled nothing but lifeless code until the stories she’d been suppressing clawed their way out, drenched in darkness, romance, and wicked wit, and demanded to become novels. By day, she’s debugging code or spending time with her husband and kids. By night, she writes romance novels about morally grey characters who thrive on calculated or gloriously uncalculated chaos, power plays, lethal chemistry, and banter sharp enough to slice arteries. In those stories, love is dangerous, humor runs pitch-black, red flags are features, and darkness is delicious.
