Something Like Hate (Babe Squad Standalones) by Harloe Rae

ABOUT THE BOOK

Landon Winters is colder than his last name suggests.
Cruel and callous too.
I’m certain he finds pleasure in making others miserable.

He’s a billionaire by his own making—not satisfied with simply inheriting a white collar and silver spoon.
Landon’s arrogance is so thick I could choke on the stench alone.
He’s also responsible for gouging a jaded chip to my shoulder.

The only saving grace is never having to see him again.
Wishful thinking is a fickle beast.

My boss just announced that Landon is my latest client.
I’ll need to impress him or kiss my promotion goodbye.
Either way, this is my chance to get even.

Revenge is all I see.
The price for redemption is steep.
Landon will pay a small fortune in humiliation.
And I’ll walk away filthy rich in vindication.

MY REVIEW

Holy cow! If you’re all about that delicious tension and witty banter, you’ll love this sexy book where sassy realtor Savannah “Vannah” Simons gives brooding billionaire Landon Winters a run for his money. Seriously, the gloves are off, and the hate between these two is palpable. It’s a delightful rollercoaster that just gets better and better with every snide remark and one-upmanship.

The Harloe Rae I remember is back with a ruthless MMC and a strong FMC. Landon is an acquired taste and rates in the top 5 of the alpha-hole category along with the infamous Brance Stone from Ask Me Why, and joy of joys, Brance is back in this book with all his surly attitude. Talk about nostalgia!

I was worried that Landon had no redeeming qualities after hearing him skewer everyone around him, but he met his match with Vannah, who skillfully and satisfyingly leaves him bereft and so angry with her clever quips. His confusion that anyone would stand up to him is captivating and exciting as he ramps up the insults only to be shut down again. However, as broody alphas do, he goes too far and pushes Vannah away only to realize he isn’t going to find anyone like her ever again.

I love that Vannah is strong, resilient, and not a pushover. She is bold, confident, and knows what she wants in a man. However, when she gets shot down by a surly asshole at her friend’s wedding, she feels she’s cursed in the love department until she is tasked by her boss to seal the business deal of a century and get her dream promotion. It’s an uphill battle being civil to this pompous ass, but she does it with grace and moxie that had me laughing out loud many times throughout the book.

There is no better chemistry than hate-to-love, and these two deliver the intensity by the bucketful. The harsh banter and the laugh-out-loud antics are what I expect from Harloe Rae, and she nailed it again! Plus, the return of beloved characters from previous books feels like a homecoming, bringing back that sense of familiarity and joy.

If you love a take-no-prisoners romance between two intelligent and stubborn people who fall in love despite the animosity, you’ll enjoy this fast-paced story. Give it try, you won’t regret it!

Thank you to Ms. Rae for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
