MY REVIEW
I picked up this book because I love the reluctant roommates trope, and I enjoy works by both authors. Unfortunately, I felt underwhelmed. Heather and Chris have to share a small apartment for six months to prove they can get along and run Heather’s father’s construction company together. People say you shouldn’t mix business with pleasure. Challenge accepted!
Heather still struggles with her mother leaving years ago, and now her dad is making her live with Chris Dole, who also left her in the past. This time, she has to prove to her father that she can work with Chris as a business partner to run the family company. Honestly, I’d be upset too if my dad didn’t trust me with the business and hired my rival behind my back. On top of that, they’re keeping a secret from her, which just makes her trust Chris even less.
As male roommates go, I would be okay with big, sexy Chris sharing an apartment with me, but the ugly red chair would have to go. I feel for Chris because earning trust is difficult when the person you see every day (Heather) holds such animosity toward you. He owes his mentor, Tom, so much, and living with his daughter isn’t so bad, but that dog…
I have to admit, the chemistry between Heather and Chris just didn’t do it for me. I wanted more tension between them, but they went from hating each other to hooking up way too quickly. It felt rushed. I usually love dogs in books, but Lucy seemed more like a distraction and sometimes even a nuisance.
The story had some charming moments, but overall, it felt pretty predictable and just okay. Still, if you enjoy quick romantic reads with plenty of laughs and drama, you might want to try it.
