ABOUT THE BOOK
One night in Vegas. One drunken vow. One surprise husband.
I don’t drink. I don’t date.
And I definitely don’t wake up married.
Ronan Black—A.K.A the stranger in my bed—is everything I don’t need.
He’s a morally bankrupt charm offensive with trouble written all over his chiseled face.
I’m the good daughter, the responsible best friend, the person who never makes bad decisions.
Now, one night in Vegas just turned into a lifetime of consequences when I wake up in Ronan’s bed…with his ring on my finger.
Because he wants it to stay there.
Maybe even for good.
It’s a bad idea. The worst.
His plan is simple: stay married long enough for him to take control of his company and for me to keep mine afloat.
It’s not fake…but it’s not exactly legitimate either.
So why am I starting to think this ridiculous marriage could actually work?
Ronan might be morally gray, but he’s also becoming the only man I trust.
But do these strange feelings go both ways?
When his corrupt world forces him to pick, will Ronan choose his billions?
Or will he choose us?
MY REVIEW
I have to admit, one-night-stand Vegas marriages aren’t my favorite trope because they can feel cheesy or overdone, but Ms. French makes it work with humor and steam. The charming Ronan Black, with a sinister past, and the reserved Laney Fisher, who didn’t see the chaos coming, are truly opposites that attract.
Laney has a quiet strength and integrity that I admire. She sacrificed her career and is drowning in debt, worried about keeping her mother’s shop afloat. In addition, she has a heart condition and should avoid stress, but she is Mrs. Black now after a drunken Vegas marriage, and her dad is MIA after her mother’s death. Most importantly, I respected her loyalty and thoughtfulness in helping with her best friend’s wedding as she deals with her feelings for Ronan, knowing it won’t be forever.
Ronan is the fixer for Blackguard Holdings and is now the next in line for CEO of the his family’s company since his brother Brendan stepped down. He uses charisma and humor to hide his dark secrets which could end his growing affection for Laney when she finds out. Ronan is more than he appears. It’s endearing how he babbles around Laney when he gets flustered, and how protective he becomes of her, feeling so genuine and natural.
The attraction is strong with the quick banter and their combined love for the Classics, which is a unique plotline. There is more humor in this book than the first one, which had me captivated to the end, plus I was on pins and needles wondering how Ronan was going to reveal his secret to Laney.
This book is a great balance of humorous moments and heartfelt drama. So if you’re looking for an absorbing read with a spark of chaos and a whole lot of love, this one is definitely worth picking up. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
