One: Rage, Vengeance, Murder (Path of Deception and Betrayal, Book 3) by K. J. McGillick \
ABOUT THE BOOK
A stolen life. A Faustian bargain. Prey becomes predator.
Azar Abed is out for revenge for the life Dr. Adrian Armond stole from her. No matter what the cost. Adrien Armond will stop at nothing to recover the massive fortune Azar Abed embezzled from him. Neither will walk away until the other is dead. Someone’s going to die, that is for certain.
Personal revenge gets caught up in a bio-terror plot to crash the world’s economy as darkness spirals into darkness and terror is the order of the day. Azar Abed and Adrien Armond are on a collision course that could have catastrophic consequences on a global scale.
Who will kill who first? Will it be enough? Can anyone stop the bio-terror plot to destroy the world’s economy that is already in motion? Does anyone have enough humanity left even to try?
Set against a backdrop of Washington, DC, ONE is a heart pounding-psychological thriller pitting greed against greed in a cat-and-mouse game where vengeance is the only prize. It can be read as a standalone, or as the conclusion to events begun in its predecessor, TWO. It concludes the Path of Deception and Betrayal series.
MY REVIEW
Welcome to my spot on the One: Rage, Vengeance, Murder Blog Blitz hosted by Rachel’s Random Resources. This is the third book in the Path of Deception and Betrayal series and I am thrilled that my favorite spunky character, Mary, from Book 1, has returned.
Azar Abed is a sociopath who wants revenge on Dr. Adrien Armond who was hired to remove her kidney without her permission to save her now-deceased psychopathic father. However, Azar’s revenge goes beyond payback for the kidney (which was returned). She plans to destroy everyone who hurt her in the past. That plan includes “financial Armageddon” by manipulating grain commodities and releasing an herbicide that will kill off crops. In addition, she plans to release a pandemic of viruses to kill off a portion of the overpopulated world, and her partner and lover, Marcello Ghiaccio would use his company to come up with an antidote that would make them billions.
Dr. Adrien Armond, a physician, businessman, husband, murderer, and thief is out for revenge on Azar Abed for siphoning millions from his accounts as payback for the kidney he removed and sent back to her after he murdered her psychopathic father. He has a plan to get his money back and kill Azar, but time is of the essence because they are onto him.
Mary Collier is working on getting her field hours for her private investigation requirement and after suing the government for age discrimination she was assigned as a partner with FBI Agent Jackson Evans. On the outside, Mary may look like a charming grandmother, but underneath all that, she is a shrewd and cunning adversary. Her exemplary skills at reading people, trying out new “spy” gadgets, and coming up with plausible scenarios put her ahead of the game in everyone’s eyes except Jackson who calls her scenarios conspiracy theories. Until…her observations put her in danger.
Ms. McGillick does it once again creating a realistic and complex plot filled with sociopaths, murderers, and government agencies in a serious game of cat and mouse that includes international financial devastation and biological weapons of mass destruction. Her characters are intensely diverse ranging from demented and immoral to tenacious and funny which in my mind distinguishes her from other authors.
Overall, One is an action-packed psychological thriller with brilliant issues and themes with a satisfying ending to the series. Recommend highly!
Thank you to Ms. McGillick for giving me the opportunity to review this book with no expectation of a positive review.
