Niccolaio Andretti (The Five Syndicates #2) by Parker S. Huntington

ABOUT THE BOOK

He has a million-dollar bounty on his head. She’s fighting for her sister.

Dating men for money isn’t what most girls dream of doing when they grow up.

But after graduating from college, I can’t catch a break.
No job offers.
No place to live.
Not even a couch to dig for change under.

If I don’t find a job and a place to live fast, I can’t adopt my little sister from foster care.
I’m desperate.
A little unhinged.
And dating a trust-fund baby twice my age for his money.

Who cares if we have no chemistry?
Who cares if I hate his hot, mysterious neighbor who pushes my buttons every chance he gets?
Who cares if his neighbor stares at me like he’s picturing me in his bed?

Then, Mr. Money Bags dumps me.
I get shot at by strangers.
And the arrogant neighbor I loathe?
He. Saves. Me.

I should cut my losses and be grateful I’m still alive.
Instead, I do something crazy.
I blackmail him into letting me be his roommate.

MY REVIEW

In book 2 of the Five Syndicates series we meet the volatile Minka Reynolds again, Lucy’s nemesis, and the stoic and deadly Niccolaio Andretti, fixer for the Romano family.  Talk about high energy!  These two are fun to watch…and they think Lucy is crazy.

I give another sweet grin, hoping that I look like every misogynistic man’s wet dream—a woman that looks like a Victoria’s Secret angel, cooks like Martha Stewart and spreads her legs quicker than a lady working a street corner. Yep. Guys are great, aren’t they?

Minka will do anything for her 12-year-old sister who has spina bifida and is in a group home.  Even marry a man for money. After graduating college Minka  is homeless and her latest sugar daddy isn’t working. It’s the dangerous and hot next door neighbor who has caught her eye…well actually she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and almost got shot because of him. So why not hatch a plan for him to take care of her. After all, he put her in danger and lives in an expensive penthouse. Famous last words.

It’s one of those things you can just tell—the sky is blue, puppies are stupidly cute, and this woman is a raging bitch. With flashing green eyes, vivid red hair, and a curvy figure, she’s also every man’s wet dream. But I’ll let you in on a little secret—Prince Charming doesn’t want to marry a raging bitch.

Niccolaio is bored. He has a bounty on his head ordered by his brother and has been hiding for years. He is a fixer for his family’s number one enemy. It’s the beautiful hot-headed woman that was screwing the douchebag old man next door that is in his head lately. It doesn’t help she almost got killed by one of many hitman determined to get their $5 million reward for his demise. Now he feels obligated to protect her, but she’s getting under his skin as they go from safe house to safe house and he can’t afford to let his guard down…uh, too late.

I love Ms. Huntington’s writing. This book has some tragic stuff, but then she throws in some LOL dark comedy that just blows me away. Minka’s clean cursing and Niccolaio’s quirky dark humor is fantastic! I can’t help but love the unpredictable and steamy relationship between Minka and Niccolaio. The way their story unfolds is well done as they find common ground and work toward the slow build to the inevitable hot sexy moment. Sigh!

I have to agree with the author that one read Asher Black first so one can understand the whole Lucy and Asher thing.  It is well worth it with several references (many hilarious regarding Lucy) to the characters.

I recommend this enemies-to-lovers romance for those who love dark comedy, suspense, and sexy undercurrents of unrequited love. I can’t wait to read book 3 about Niccolaio’s brother Ranie.
