ABOUT THE BOOK
Billie thinks stopping her fellow students from committing murder and almost getting kicked out of the Realm is as bad as it gets, but she should know better. Not only are seven of the most powerful students out for her blood, but Sedna —her former enemy turned ally— turns her enemy again when Billie refuses a part in her revenge scheme.
What’s more, Alpha Administration’s refusal to address the injustice in their school is sparking a full-on rebellion, and a lot of innocents are going to be caught in the crosshairs. It isn’t just the school either, the Realm itself is overrun with violence and hatred, which will have deadly consequences. Lucian, her self-imposed magical guru, insists Billie’s extraordinary magic is the key to stopping the flood of violence coming their way.
Billie knows her magic is extraordinary, but she also knows its destructive power. It might do more harm than good.
MY REVIEW
Billie is half-human, half-Fae and as her life continues at Alpha Academy being the brunt of jokes and bullying, she continues to learn about her magic which is more powerful than she could have ever imagined. But it’s that power that may help stop the murderous teenagers out for revenge for the injustices and biases of the school’s administration. Can she save the school, her friends, herself?
I like the fact that Billie is starting to communicate with her magic, steep learning curve that it is. Her empathy for all the species at school including the most vicious is admirable considering how they torture and intimidate her. She definitely sees the good in everyone which she gets from her mother and her human side. Don’t get me wrong, she does get her licks in, but she’s not one who enjoys hurting others.
I was a little ahead of the curve with this book because I read book 1 in the series, Misfit’s Rise, but I believe Piper’s Song can be read as a standalone. However, I suggest that if you want to get the full experience of Billie’s life going from Earth “Rustland” to The Realm, then pick up the first book.
I recommend this exciting fantasy to those who love worlds filled with Faeries, Witches, Warlocks, Elves, Wizards, and Sorcerers, and all that entails. The world-building is magical and the characters are extreme. Not to mention the climactic end is a shocker.
Thank you to Ms. Tall for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
