MY REVIEW
It was ten years ago that Quinn was forced to leave all she loved behind. And today she is returning practically penniless to attend a funeral to say goodbye to her beloved Aunt Lilly and to face her heartbreaking past. Namely, Logan Savage. He’ll never know what she sacrificed so many years ago. The lie she told to save his life. As she prepares to leave town and never look back again, her Aunt Lilly throws a wrench in Quinn’s plans by a stipulation in her will. Stay six months to repair Lilly’s lakehouse and receive a million dollars. The kicker is Quinn has to work side by side with the man she left behind so many years ago. The man she never stopped loving and who would never forgive her for what she did. And if that isn’t enough her evil cheating ex is out to get her because she has the power to destroy him.
Logan Savage knew Quinn would return for her aunt’s funeral and she still had the capacity to leave him breathless. He gave Quinn everything and she took it away ten years ago. Aunt Lilly’s plan threw him for a loop, but he would keep it professional for six months and not let Quinn get under his skin. Big fail! The attraction is still there and their deal to have a no-strings-attached relationship until she leaves for New York backfires on him. His feelings for her haven’t changed, but she is filled with fear from her past and is unable to love and trust anyone. Their fate was sealed many years ago and he dreads losing her again.
Second chances is one of my favorite tropes and this one is filled with all kinds of angst and a sinister plot for revenge. Normally, there is a lot of hostility between two people who parted ways like they did, but I found Quinn and Logan to be pretty mature about it. Quinn has been through so much with a bullying father, an abusive husband, and so many secrets. It took a lot of strength to come back to a town that knew about her father’s nasty dealings and downfall and to put up with the looks and gossip. Logan is a pleasant surprise. His willingness to give her the needed control of their relationship is stellar even though he is very persuasive in his own sexy and direct way. It is beautiful to watch these two people overcome so many secrets and heartache. Aunt Lilly knew they were definitely meant for each other.
As for supporting characters, Bree is a loyal and caring friend to Quinn when she comes back to town. Those kind of friendships are lifelong. And Logan’s friend, Ethan, former bad boy turned cop, is a good listener and funny to boot. Ethan’s teasing of Bree is so hilarious, but it’s his protectiveness of her that is so provocative. I’m hoping these two have a story coming up in the series.
I loved this wonderful story of loss, redemption, forgiveness, and hope. The characters are realistic. The plot is well-written and gripping. And the HEA is meant to be.
