Austin’s Revenge (Ares Falls Billionaires #1) by Jax McKay
ABOUT THE BOOK
I never forgot the one night I had with Violet.
Now she’s my assistant and I’m going to make her mine.Being forced into early retirement wasn’t all that bad. After all, now I am running my own MMA promo company. With my best friends and my brother at my side we can’t fail.
The last thing I expected them to do was hire me an assistant. And I definitely wasn’t prepared for her to walk in. Violet Lancaster… The one night stand I never forgot.
MY REVIEW
I couldn’t wait to read about Austin and Violet’s story after finishing the prequel Awakening. When they meet again a year after their unforgettable one-night-stand, there are secrets, betrayals, and threats that could destroy everything between them.
Austin is not a businessman. He is a retired MMA fighter who has decided to form a legit MMA promotion company with his brother and his best friends. He plans to take Fighter’s International (FI) down which is headed by the narcissistic and controlling Nathan Kraft who had sponsored Austin and stole his winnings every chance he could get. When his company hires a new assistant, Austin didn’t expect to see Violet Lancaster again. The only woman he couldn’t forget. The woman he can’t touch. Well, that’s what his business partners think.
Violet is desperate to find a job and get out of the shithole she and her brother Topher are living in. Being a bartender is barely paying the bills. When her latest job falls through due to her nasty ex, Nathan. He blackmails her into taking the job at Austin’s company to spy on them. She loves this job and she’s good at it, but she hates herself for betraying the one man she has come to love. It’s between protecting Austin and his company and protecting her brother. She already saw the consequences of her beaten brother, if she didn’t comply. How could she explain this to Austin when Nathan would probably do something even worse.
First of all, I was surprised the confident and no-nonsense Violet was ever involved with Nathan, but we all make mistakes when we’re young. I personally believe Violet should have confessed to Austin and his colleagues much earlier and I don’t understand why she didn’t. She’s not a wallflower. She saw how they all treated her with respect and trusted her. Yes, she has always been the one to take care of her life and her brother. Yes, she could only trust herself, but there comes a time when you need to ask for help. She’s lucky they all forgave her because I don’t know if I would have. Austin has worked hard to be where he is and has kept women at a distance during his career. He definitely knows how to break the rules by going against his friend Jay’s insistence that he keep his hands off his employee. It was only a matter of time when their attraction and lust turned into love. And you know the saying, “love conquers all”.
My favorite characters are Austin’s business partners. Jay has a good head on his shoulders and gets shit done. He is Austin’s former fight manager and now head of operations and marketing at the new company. Asher is Austin’s twin brother, a tech guru, and a felon. And Cash is the money man. They all grew up together with very little to their names. Now they are making it beg. I also enjoyed Violet’s brother, Topher, who is a smart cookie and loves his big sis.
It bothered me that the pace of the story was going well and then it came to an abrupt end. I wanted to savor the love between Austin and Violet and the revenge against Nathan, but the story seemed to skip over that to get to the happy ending.
Overall, this is a quick-read romance filled with hot sex, betrayal, and revenge. What more could you ask for?
Thank you to Ms. McKay for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
