A London Villain by Catherine Wiltcher
ABOUT THE BOOK
He’s a man staring into the eye of the storm, Ada… The storm’s blinking first.
It started with a dare: Steal a kiss from the pretty, green-eyed girl with the Irish mobster father.
Turns out, Ada O’Sullivan was a much better thief than me. In the span of one night, I lost my head, my senses, my loyalty to my own crime family…
At nineteen, she was the only thing worth fighting for. Dying for. Loving. But I was a boy playing a man’s game. In the end, they drove me from this city, while Ada was driven straight to hell.
Now, I’m back—an avenging devil—with red hands and loaded bullets. Irish. Mafia. Bratva. British. Everyone who tore her from my arms, everyone who has ever hurt her, will suffer the consequences.
But time bleeds secrets. Secrets open old wounds. Ada isn’t the same sweet girl I knew before they ripped her innocence apart.
And that boy? I’ve turned him into a villain who will stop at nothing to make her mine again.
MY REVIEW
Holy revenge! There is nothing I like more than extreme payback and revenge on the darkest and most evil antagonists and Ms. Wiltcher does that and more in this book. Two young lovers are beaten, broken, and fated to be torn apart for fourteen years. One exiled and honed to become a villain and one married to a vile monster who maimed her and raised by an even more loathsome murderer who made her life miserable. Two victims. Two survivors.
Ada is a lonely girl imprisoned in a life, not of her choosing. Her weekly trips to the library with her nasty bodyguard were her only solace from the terrifying men who cared nothing about her. Then one day a young man gave her hope by vowing to save her, but who knew it would take so many years for him to keep his vow.
The night Frankie’s family is murdered, he sees a little girl dancing in the window. She is his only ray of hope for a future filled with crime and vengeance. Forced to choose between his adoptive brother and the woman he loved, he is sent abroad to learn the skills needed to avenge his family and save her once and for all.
My heart broke for Ada and Frankie when they just couldn’t catch a break. Both were used as pawns to further corruption and depravity, they chose hope over despair. No regrets is their motto. Ada is my hero. Her strength is phenomenal considering the life she was dealt. Kidnapped by an Irish mobster with no heart or conscience. Married to a despicable and abusive Bratva man who crippled her and then took her child away. And then she opens a dance studio to teach young girls the dream that will never come true for her. Frankie’s loyalty and devotion to Ada over their years apart is beautiful. His only communication with her is the same book he gifts her each month they are apart, each book a new edition in different languages. The book is her favorite,The Count of Monte Cristo. A testament to their lives. A story about “justice and revenge, of wrongful imprisonment and redemption”. Ada and Frankie certainly worked hard for their happily ever after.
The suspense is fantastic and the twists and turns are shocking. Of course, the revenge on the nasty, depraved, abusive men in this book was my salvation. The tortuous painful deaths these men received were well deserved.
The supporting characters are so important in this book. My favorite character is Viper, Ada’s half-brother, Danny, who is the remains of a young man brutalized and beaten to become a dark savior of abused innocents. I can’t wait to read his story. Adrien, Frankie’s adoptive brother, is loyal to the brother who made an ultimate sacrifice. Roisin, Ada’s “stepmother”, has an honorable mention for her efforts to help both Danny and Ada while trying to survive her husband’s horrific abuse. As for the evil antagonists Kirill Semenov, Ada’s husband, and Cian O’Sullivan, Ada’s kidnapper, revenge is sweet.
I highly recommend this intense dark mafia romance written with such raw emotional depth. The deep love and perseverance of the protagonists far outweigh the pain and heartbreak they endure.
A note that there are violent triggers in this book that are not for the faint of heart.
Thank you to Ms. Wiltcher for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
