MY REVIEW

Cassius Cox is another new author for me and I was hooked from the first triggering page.

Catherine is a survivor of domestic abuse, inflicted upon her by her own mother, ever since she lost her father at a young age. It is heart-wrenching to read about the abuse that Catherine has endured, but at the same time, it’s inspiring to see how she has learned to fight it. Her determination and take-charge attitude are all admirable qualities that make her a strong character. However, there’s also a vulnerability that is discovered by her therapist Roisin.

On the other hand, we have Catherine’s best friend, Hayley, who suffers a different form of abuse. Her attack is sudden and devastatingly brutal as she’s unable to fight back and Catherine takes it upon herself to avenge Hayley’s attack with strength and determination. Readers can’t help but cheer for Catherine as she gets justice. However, just when we think that the story has taken a positive turn, it takes another shocking turn that leaves us gaping at the pages in dread.

The story is gripping and intense, with complex characters and unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. Cox’s writing makes you want to savor every word and linger over every sentence. I would encourage anyone who enjoys suspenseful, character-driven stories to give it a try but be forewarned of the triggers including rape and sexual abuse.

Born in Dorking, Surrey England.

I love stories, whether it be in film, book, or music. If it moves me emotionally, then I am sold. As a child I used books or films to escape reality, in fact I probably still do. My happy place is the cinema.

My favourite genre is psychological thriller, I prefer a story that is emotionally driven, the darker the better. But I am happy to be recommended a good book in any genre. My favourite work of fiction is One Day by David Nicholls and my favourite non-fiction is Stephen King’s On Writing.

I’ve suffered with depression since I was in my early teens, I’d rather not have it as it’s a daily battle to keep going, but when it comes to my writing I would say it’s a strength.

I am a huge sports fan. I love boxing, MMA and football. These days I am coaching kids football rather than playing. I love watching live sport, you might see me at the Meadowbank stadium watching my local team Dorking Wanderers, or at The London Stadium watching West Ham or even at Wembley watching England.

Favourite holiday destinations are Woolacombe in Devon, Centre Parcs, Florida, Vegas and Thailand.

I enjoy going jogging or going the gym, but I also like a drink and a takeaway so the two probably count each other out. I’m far from perfect. Who is?
