ABOUT THE BOOK
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.
The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.
MY REVIEW
When it comes to the world of vampires, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where they aren’t the dominant force. But what if there was an evil enemy that threatened their very existence? That’s where the Black Dagger Brotherhood comes in. They are the protectors of the vampire race, and they will stop at nothing to keep them safe.
At the center of this story is Wrath, the only pure vampire left. He is their King, but he doesn’t want the responsibility that comes with the title. However, when one of his closest friends is killed by the evil Lessers, he decides to honor his friend’s request and protect his daughter, Beth.
Beth is a small-town reporter who is not aware she is half human and half vampire and she is about to go through a dangerous transition that may just kill her. Her life takes a drastic turn after meeting Wrath, a mysterious and attractive man who enters her apartment uninvited. Little did she know, her entire life would change after meeting him. I always like a book with a badass female warrior, but Beth fell short for me. She was too cutesy and simpering, though she did stand up for her man when needed.Â
As Beth’s transition approaches, Wrath realizes that she will need his blood to survive. Despite his initial reluctance, he knows that he must do everything in his power to protect her, even if it means sacrificing himself for her safety.  It was good to see that Wrath had a back story on why he felt so underserving of leading the brotherhood. Many times we don’t get the whole story on the broody alpha vampire.Â
My favorite character was not a vampire at all. Detective Brian “Butch” O’Neal is a cop looking out for Beth and he has balls of steel as he struts into the lion’s den with no fear. Who else would go up against 5 huge dangerous vampires and win them over with his humor and charm? I can’t wait to read his story.
The brothers are also a treat to watch with their quirky senses of humor and their own dangerous traits just waiting to be exposed in the books to come. The antagonists are also very mysterious as they play their evil games to rid the world of the alpha vampires once and for all.
One of the things that made this series stand out to me is its ability to seamlessly blend romance and action. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and the action scenes are thrilling and intense. I found myself on the edge of my seat during many of the battles.Â
