Vared by (Svesti Fated Mates #1) Wavy Martin

ABOUT THE BOOK

Thirty years ago, the Zuvgran released a virus that killed most Svesti females and rendered the remainder infertile. The Svesti initiate first contact with Earth when their scientists discover that humans and Svesti can interbreed. Humans may be able to save the warrior species that has been protecting Earth’s region of space for a century.

Talia has no intention of entering into a breeding or troth contract, no matter what her government promised. All she wants is to negotiate a treaty and go back to Earth to her son and sister.

Vared is the commander of the space cruiser. As a warrior, he isn’t sure he wants any mate. His job: deliver the human females safely to their Choosings at the King’s Court.

MY REVIEW

This is my first novel by Wavy Martin and it is an interesting science fiction romance with a bit of suspense thrown in.

The story is about Svesti alien females dying out due to a virus created by the Zuvgran. In a desperate attempt to save their race, the Svesti contact humans and receive six females as potential mates. However, the women are misled by their respective governments and are not told of their role. When they realize they’ve been sold out, chaos ensues, causing problems for the alien warriors. Not to mention there is a traitor on board the spaceship who is plotting to make sure everyone is infertile.

Talia Sullivan is not your typical protagonist in alien romances. She’s a divorced mother in her mid-thirties who is a good ambassador for her country and a good leader of the human females on the ship fighting for their rights. She proves to be a strong and capable character, and her profession as an author becomes integral to the story, making her role in the plot crucial.

Commander Vared Durek is a formidable character with protective feelings for Lady Talia making him a relatable character. He is quick to anger, but he eventually comes around when given more time to think about something. His respect for Talia is immediate at her fearless determination to do what is right. And he has a romantic, sexy, and caring side that makes the story even more enjoyable.

The human and alien characters develop strong bonds, aiding in the search for the traitor and support for each other.

Even though the story was unique, I found the pacing slow and it needed less of the descriptive stuff like the vaccine mandate that pulled me away from the main story.

If you’re looking for a new alien romance novel, Vared might be just what you need. This book has a unique plot with an interesting band of characters and a traitor subplot.

Thank you to Ms. Martin for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wavy Martin is the snarky alter ego of award-winning author Vivian M. Lumbard. While Vivian was swept up in the adulting craze and modeling good behavior for children, Wavy has steadfastly maintained her ability to curse, have no filter, and be sarcastic as well as politically incorrect. If Wavy’s body were as young as her heart, she would sport expensive leathers with thigh-high boots and ride a motorcycle. She will never admit that a minivan, sneakers with ortho inserts and a regular sleep schedule are better for her body. When Vivian is distracted with writer’s block during her more serious work, Wavy takes over the keyboard to write the steamy, sometimes irreverent, books. Wavy rarely makes personal appearances these days, but if she does, it’s usually when Vivian has had one too many mixed drinks.

Unconfirmed rumors say that hubby is hoping that when empty nest syndrome visits their household, Wavy will break out those thigh-high boots and a corset.
