The Psycho (The Soldiers of Anarchy #1) by Nikki J Summers

ABOUT THE BOOK

There are three things that are certain in this life.
Death.
Taxes.
And if I want something, I will get it, no matter what it takes.

From the moment I laid eyes on Olivia Cooper, I knew…
She was mine.
She didn’t agree, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me.
She was all I thought about. She was my obsession.

So, I watched.
I studied.
I toyed with her and I played my games.
In her I’d found my perfect match, because she met every single one of my challenges with one of her own. She fought back and I loved it. All good things are worth fighting for, right?

Trouble was, she thought it was all a game, but I would never give up. I saw something in her that made me crave more.
What did she see in me?
Cruelty.
Savagery.
A street soldier with a thirst for vengeance.
I was a virus and she was immune.
Or was she?
Where I come from, they call me The Psycho.
And I’m about to show the world exactly why.

MY REVIEW

My first Nikki J Summers novel was a total wild and delectable experience! Normally, when I pick up a book featuring a possessive alpha leader who’s also a killer, I brace myself for a ride filled with brooding and bullying. But boy, was I in for a surprise! Meet Adam—he may be a psycho, but he’s also adorably awkward and surprisingly tolerant in his pursuit of Liv. This isn’t your typical dark romance trope, and I liked it.

From the get-go, you get this strange insta-love vibe from Adam that kind of pulls you in, even with his creepy and stalkerish antics. This guy makes Liv feel wanted and adored in his own twisted way, and I liked the complexity. It’s such a refreshing twist from the usual ‘alpha male makes life hard for the heroine’ narrative.

Liv is a force to be reckoned with, standing her ground and showing serious bravery. It’s not easy staying tough in the presence of someone like Adam, but Liv manages to protect her feelings while looking out for her friends. Watching her gradually let her guard down is such a rewarding experience. You can tell Adam is trying hard to break through those defenses, and honestly, it’s kind of adorable.

Apparently this book is a spinoff of another series, so I did feel a bit lost initially with all the new characters being thrown at me. But the storyline surrounding justice for silent victims adds an intriguing layer to the chaos of these unhinged soldiers of anarchy. I’m definitely curious to learn more about the supporting cast and how their stories will unfold.

Fair warning though—this is a slow burn, but given the title The Psycho, you know there’s some dark stuff lurking beneath the surface. One scene in particular? Cringe. I was covering my eyes and peeking through my fingers, let me tell you! It’s sweetly disturbing, and if you’re into that kind of vibe, you’ll likely find this book hard to put down.

If you’re looking for something that mixes intensity with a touch of sweetness and leaves you slightly unsettled, grab a copy. You’re in for a crazy ride!
