The Billionaire Affair (In Too Deep #1) by Ali Parker

ABOUT THE BOOK

I’m thinking it’s finally got to be my turn. I’ve got no man and no money. Nothing but a personality and a smile. But maybe that’s enough this time.

The richest guy in New York is looking for a secretary, and lucky for me, he’s young and as hot as sin. Too bad he’s an alpha jerk rich boy who’s stuck on himself. Nothing I do is right.

Throw in a crazy ex and a father that can’t stand anything that breathes in his personal space, and I. Am. Out.

He can find someone else to take notes and get his coffee. I’m fine being broke and single. I’ve gotten good at it. Besides, I’m not interested in a billionaire affair.

Or am I already in too deep to leave? Sure feels that way.

MY REVIEW

I just finished The Billionaire Affair that had a lot of promise, but unfortunately, didn’t quite deliver. I wanted to love the story, but it was too wordy at times and left some unresolved questions for me.

The story starts strong with the sassy Stephanie Donovan and billionaire Jeremiah Williams. Stephanie is confident at her job skills and though the chemistry is intense with her boss she would not take a job at the expense of her dignity and soul. I appreciated that the characters didn’t just jump into bed together right away, but developed a genuine relationship with witty banter and serious conversations. Then the odd and unbelievable plot twist with the unhinged ex-secretary happens which left me confused.

A lot of the story focuses on Jeremiah’s friends and family including his asshole of a dad, and though Stephanie talks about her family, unfortunately, we don’t get a full picture of what happened between them.

I pushed through to the end, but I have to admit, it was a struggle. It took me far longer than usual to finish, and I had to resist the urge to set it down more than a few times. It’s such a shame because I genuinely liked the characters and the foundation of the story. I just wish it had come together in a more cohesive way.
