ABOUT THE BOOK
Phyllis (Phil) Dubois has long left her performing days behind, opting for a more anonymous role in the music industry instead. Something not everyone is happy about.
When the pressure for her to return to the stage mounts, she packs her things in an old RV and hits the road in search of some peace and quiet.
She thinks she’s found it when she rolls into the small town of Silence.
Former sheriff, Brant Colter, is still trying to get used to his abrupt retirement after a health scare last year. He’s not good with change and likes things just the way they are.
That’s why, when a purple-haired hippie moves into the empty house down the road, he’s convinced trouble won’t be too far behind.
He’s not wrong. However, it’s not his annoyingly cheerful neighbor he should be worried about, but the danger that follows her to town.
MY REVIEW
Have you ever met someone who just shines with confidence and positivity? That’s Phil Woods for you. She’s a carefree singer/songwriter with fabulous purple hair who has spent years exploring life in her beloved bus. Now, she’s finally settling down in the cozy little town of Silence, Washington, and it seems like the perfect spot for a fresh start away from the hustle and bustle of her past. But not all is safe in her new digs.
Phil’s enthusiasm for life is truly contagious! She brings such a joyful vibe that stands in stark contrast to her neighbor, Brant Colter. Brant’s a bit grumpy and set in his ways, thanks to his days as a retired sheriff. But don’t let that tough exterior fool you, he has a soft heart, especially when it comes to caring for his rescue goat, Angus. And let me tell you, Angus is full of personality! This little troublemaker loves to escape and has even taken a nibble out of Phil’s laundry.
What I love most about this story is how it celebrates life at a certain age, highlighting the importance of finding your own happiness, and I can’t help but laugh at Phil’s outdoor skills like fly fishing and unapologetically getting caught making out with Brant in his truck—poor guy won’t hear the end of that! LOL.
Freya Barker’s novels always pack in a bit of drama and excitement, and this one is no exception. With danger lurking, you can bet Brant will rise to the occasion and save the day.
Overall, I enjoyed this short romantic suspense story filled with twists and turns, laughter, and captivating characters. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Thank you to Ms. Barker for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
