MY REVIEW
It’s been a minute since I picked up an L. Steele novel, and I totally forgot what I was missing. If you’re here for bad boy/good girl vibes, you’re in for a treat with Chef and Marine James Hamilton and Sous Chef Harper Richie. Let me tell you, the chemistry is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
“I’m not asking you to forgive me. I’m asking you to let me try to deserve you.”
He’s rigid, controlling, and can be overbearing to a fault. Yet, there’s something about him that makes him utterly devoted. I can’t even count how many times I found myself yelling at my book when he fumbled through his emotions. Seriously, this guy has more foot-in-mouth moments than I can handle. But there’s a softer side, too. He’s so into Harper that he actually collects her hair ties for emotional support. I mean, who does that? He’s a ticking time bomb waiting to explode, and trust me, I couldn’t wait for that moment.
She’s the perfect balance to James’ chaos; patient, kind, and absolutely in tune with the man she hasn’t been able to forget for the past five years. Despite his severity and often cringe-worthy comments, she sees the layered person behind the tough exterior. When she reluctantly agrees to a marriage of convenience while chasing her dream of owning a restaurant and providing a better life for her sister and niece, she opens her heart to James in ways he never expected. But know that Harper isn’t a doormat. She holds her own and has the kind of tact that endears her to everyone, including James’ no-nonsense grandmother and his all-male kitchen crew.
What keeps me coming back for more Steele is her brilliant writing style. She has this incredible knack for crafting stories filled with tension, not to mention the tough themes she tackles. This one dives into the complexities of OCD and PTSD, giving readers a lot to think about while still keeping the romance sizzling.
If you’re someone who loves a romance brimming with tension and featuring genuine characters, you’ve got to add this book to your reading list. You won’t regret it!
