MY REVIEW

My first Jaime P. Bradley is a great escape and created a lasting impression. A Marine and an actor pairing is an interesting concept, since they are total opposites with baggage that complicates everything.

Olivia is a Marine Training Instructor, and by a favor to her brother, now a military consultant for her brother’s next movie. Olivia is a fascinating character. I admire her dedication to her field and found it notable that she wanted to be an actress when she got out. She is tough on the outside, and vulnerable on the inside. Being the center of attention isn’t her thing, and this job involves interviews, galas, and being plastered all over social media.

Chris Blackstone is a charming actor, sex symbol, and first-time producer who is used to getting what he wants until he meets the unimpressed Sergeant Olivia Quinn. Trust is something that needs to be earned for him due to the antics of his despicable father. Though it takes a while for him to understand Olivia, and he makes a few mistakes along the way, he eventually comes around and makes the wait worthwhile.

Olivia and Chris’s relationship is complex, and their ability to turn the heat up in every scene is remarkable, making it hard to look away. You can feel the tension and connection between them as they get to know the real people behind the baggage. Their verbal debates are the highlight of the book, especially when their fears get in the way.

The supporting characters include Olivia’s brother, Theo, a Hollywood director, and her number one fan; Malia, the leading actress, a fun fellow conspirator with Olivia and Chris; and Betty, the costume designer, who is the welcoming presence in an unfamiliar place.

The world-building is engaging, from the fishbowl of Hollywood Chris is part of to the military discipline and respect Olivia personifies. You can tell the author put a lot of thought into it, and it really gave depth to the story.

If you’re looking for a read that’s filled with characters you can’t help but love, an exciting plot, and an incredible world, then this book is definitely for you.
