Just Another Silly Love Song by Rich Amooi

Just Another Silly Love Song

ABOUT THE BOOK

Two rival radio personalities. Lori Martin is a positive and upbeat DJ, known for playing love songs and dedications. Ben Baxter dishes out no-nonsense, in-your-face relationship advice. Total opposites. Never in a million years would they want to work together.

Fired for losing her cool after her boyfriend breaks up with her on the air, Lori surprisingly receives a job offer for the coveted morning show at the radio station across town where Ben works. She thinks she’s replacing him, but finds out they want to team up Lori with her archenemy to set the air waves on fire and boost ratings. Financially strapped, she can’t turn down the job.

While their on-air fireworks and explosive chemistry make for great listening, what in the world will happen after work hours?

MY REVIEW

Don’t ever let someone tell you a man can’t write romance.  I have my favorite stash and Rich Amooi tops them all.  I read my first Rich Amooi book, There’s Something About a Cowboy, two years ago and I became an instant fan.  His hilarious and romantic situations and wordplay have become his hallmark and have won over this reader.

Lori Martin’s day has gone from bad to worse. It started over an ideal parking space that is being partially blocked by a rude and arrogant man, then her boyfriend calls her on-air to dump her and she gets fired. Trying to find a new job in this niche market is virtually impossible, so when she sends in an application for a morning show at a rival radio station, she wasn’t holding her breath. When she gets the job, she finds out she is going to co-host the morning show with Ben Baxter, “Mr. Tough Love”, the rude driver and arrogant talk-show host who she despises for his often unpleasant and brash advice to his callers. Needless to say, the sparks fly and ratings go through the roof with their opposite views of advice for the lovelorn. When the program director forces them to get to know each other better, Lori is surprised to discover a kinder and sweeter side to Ben that she is finding hard to resist.  Who is the real Ben Baxter?

Due to lower ratings, Ben Baxter is told he will lose his job if he doesn’t consent to have Lori as a co-host on his show. Lori Martin,”the queen of silly love songs” and “sugar-coated advice”.  His plan is to make her feel so uncomfortable on-air, that she quits, but he has to admit she is smart and sassy and is growing on him. Not to mention her smile is magnificent.  Let’s face it, he’s screwed.

The incredible chemistry between Lori and Ben is so strong that their audience feels it and approves.  I get so much enjoyment with Mr. Amooi’s characters.  They are smart, feisty, sarcastic, and oh, so funny!  Lori is very caring and pays for her grandmother to live in a better retirement home.  Ben is romantic, gives money to charities, and loves animals. What more can you ask for?  There is no doubt in my mind that the scrappy and frisky octogenarian, Grandma Joyce is my favorite. Who can’t resist someone who tells Lori her HTTR, hot-to-trot radar, is out of order?   And let’s not forget the hilarious callers who want advice on everything from a husband who leaves disgusting things on his wife’s towels to a boyfriend who likes to have their pets in the bedroom when having sex. Last of all, Lori’s song lists may be fun and silly to some, but they are classics to me.

Mr. Amooi has done it again. He’s written yet another bonafide laugh-out-loud romantic comedy I could not put down.  If you need a break from the daily doldrums, give this book a try.  It will have you laughing so hard, you’ll burn off some of those lockdown calories!

Thank you to Mr. Amooi for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
