Four Letter Feelings (Jeremy Lewis, #1) by Lasairiona E. McMaster
ABOUT THE BOOK
Jeremy Lewis has just returned from a year in Europe, ready to start college in Alabama and pursue his dream career in the National Hockey League. Other than boring school work, he’s eager to play hockey, hang out with his new teammates and maybe even rekindle an old flame when Chelsea unexpectedly reappears in his life.
Life is looking pretty darn peachy.
But when his parents are brutally murdered in a mass shooting, merely surviving each day feels like an achievement. How can he get through college and keep his budding career on track when all he wants to do is drink and squander his parent’s fortune? Can he convince Chelsea he’s a changed man when he seems so intent on his own destruction?
MY REVIEW
Welcome to my stop on the Four Letter Feelings blog tour hosted by Rachel’s Random Resources. You have no idea how thrilled I was to read Jeremy’s story. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Lisa’s and AJ’s stories, but it was Jeremy who I fell in love with. He’s an incredibly likable character and his story is heart-wrenching and genuine.
Jeremy is a wise-cracking’, maple syrup toting, hockey hot-shotting, ladies man, but underneath it all, he is a compassionate and wonderful friend, and…don’t tell anyone…but a fantastic cook, too. When Jeremy’s life is tragically turned upside down, AJ and his incredibly supportive family help Jeremy through the most traumatic time of his life. Reading how Jeremy goes from a carefree and happy college student to a guilt-ridden, and out-of-control young man is devastating and very real. But it’s AJ who ultimately brings Jeremy out of his slump in a very frightening way.
In addition, I can’t reiterate how much I adore each and every one of the sensational characters in McMaster’s books. AJ is a freaking awesome life-long friend who will do anything for his buddy and AJ’s mother, father, and sister, Ana, are truly Jeremy’s saviors. As for Chelsea, an old friend and Jeremy’s crush from Iowa, there is chemistry there that with patience and perseverance on Jeremy’s part looks very promising.
Ms. McMaster creates characters that resonate with this reader. She has a way of developing profound realizations that life is messy and that her strong and resilient characters will handle that messiness on their own terms.
Overall, Jeremy’s story is all that I hoped for and more. If you love coming of age stories filled with LOL moments, gut-wrenching sadness, and outstanding and realistic characters, give this book a try. In true fearless fashion, the author tackles very serious subject matter including death, grief, depression, and suicide. I can’t recommend this book enough!
This story can be read as a standalone, but check out my other reviews under McMaster for the previous series that will give you insight into AJ ‘s and Lisa’s stories.
Thank you once again to Ms. McMaster for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
