Code Name: Aries (Zodiac Tactical #1) by Janie Crouch

ABOUT THE BOOK

My code name is Aries. The stars say I’m aggressive, dominant, first in line to lead. The stars aren’t wrong.  Zodiac Tactical is my company. It’s run by those I’ve chosen for their skills and ability to outmaneuver adversaries. We guard, protect, rescue…assist on the side of the angels. We eliminate the threat when nobody else can. My pastime of putting bad guys out of business has created powerful enemies, but I’ve always made sure there was nothing in my life I couldn’t live without. Until now. Until her.

She’s not a warrior, she’s an artist. She sees colors everywhere and greets the world—and me—with a smile. I knew I shouldn’t come near her from the beginning, but she’s everything I’ve never been able to be. And now a monster has taken her, caged her, to get even with me.

MY REVIEW

What a great start to a thrilling series!  Ms. Crouch’s characters are strong and resilient and her plot is dangerous from the get-go.

Ian leads his Zodiac Tactical team who guard, protect, and rescue, but when he tracks down the man who wants revenge on him, Ian makes a mistake and lets his guard down. Ian puts an innocent woman in danger. The woman he would give his life for.

Wavy’s first meeting with Ian was a misunderstanding where she even hit him with a serving tray. Despite their first impression, she was extremely attracted to the dark and dangerous man and made the bad decision of stalking him. Little did she know she would be running for her life more than once.

Ian and Wavy are a great couple who go through hell to be with each other. Ian is an alpha hero with a shocking incident in his past that resulted in PTSD and a whole lot of emotional torment. When Wavy is kidnapped and tortured by a man who is gunning for Ian, his determination to find her and keep her safe is his top priority. I especially respected how Ian helped her deal with her recovery afterward and was willing to sacrifice his life for hers. Wavy’s courage and strength is unforgettable as she slowly heals after an appalling event. I liked the fact that she was an artist and Ian encouraged her to sell her paintings. He understood her better than her own family who wanted to coddle her. All she wanted was to be herself.

I can’t wait to read about Ian’s friend Sarge and Bronwyn who was kidnapped by the same vile person as Wavy.

I highly recommend this gripping suspense thriller filled with action and adventure, romance, and a powerful and happy ending.

Thank you to Ms. Crouch for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
