The Worst Guy (Vital Signs #2) by Kate Canterbary
ABOUT THE BOOK
Eight weeks of forced proximity is a long time to hate someone you’re trying not to love.
Sebastian Stremmel doesn’t need another headache. He has enough of his own without Sara Shapiro, the noisy new reconstructive surgeon, stomping all around his surgical wing with her chippy, chirpy cheerfulness. But Sebastian doesn’t usually get what he wants.
No one gets under his skin like Sara – so much so a heated “debate” and an exam room left in shambles later, they land themselves in eight weeks of hospital-mandated conflict resolution counseling. Now they’re forced to fight fair…which quickly leads them to playing dirty when no one’s looking.
They know it’s a mistake.
They promise themselves it will never happen again.
They swear they got it out of their systems.
They didn’t.
MY REVIEW
Holy hotness!!! Sara and Sebastian are smokin’! Their fury is out of bounds and their passion is sexy as hell. Will their chaos bring order to their lonely lives?
Sara and Sebastian are not who they portray themselves to be. They have deep, dark hidden insecurities that make them the raging perfectionists they show to the world. To stay in control over their lives they wallow in grumpiness and bitchiness which gets them in trouble in the ER and puts them in a conflict resolution course. The exercises they are asked to do in therapy are hilarious as they complain and throw verbal insults leading to filthy hot sex afterward. As their sessions continue they start to open up to each other and show their messy sides. Their dysfunctional family dynamics are a commonality where Sebastian shows his heroic side while saving Sara from her narcissistic father. Something Sebastian has experienced in spades with his own asshole father.
Sara’s struggles with her emotionally-charged digestive problems are heartbreaking as she isolates herself from others and lives a lonely existence. And watching Sebastian unravel as he falls head over heels for Sara is beautiful but heartbreaking because she just won’t stop her internal turmoil enough to just let go. When Sebastian finally spills out his heart and soul to Sara, my heart melted. No two people are more deserving of unconditional love with all of their vulnerabilities and messiness.
Ms. Canterbary’s writing is superb and her characters are exceptional. I long to read the rest of this series and learn about Sara and Sebastian’s lovely friends Nick and Erin, Alex and Riley and Sebastian’s annoying intern, O’Rourke.
I am extremely delighted to recommend this wonderful romantic comedy filled with angst, laughter, and serious subject matter such as abandonment and eating disorders. Please pick this book up, it won’t disappoint. It’s definitely one of my favorite books of 2021.
Thank you to Ms. Canterbary for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
