Harlot (Hush #2) by Mary Elizabeth

ABOUT THE BOOK

Camilla Hearst is a Harlot.

God forgives little girls who don’t obey, but he forsakes women who surrender their bodies to desires of the flesh. Raised to believe her very existence was a sin, Camilla escaped her father’s iron fist and chased the sun to Grand Haven, California, where one thing was for certain: It’s a man’s world.

She was prepared to live in it until the day Camilla met the highest paid escort in the city—exposing an underground world where women rule like queens. Now Camilla finds herself offering her body to the highest bidder.

Falling for Grand Haven’s golden boy and mafia attorney, Wilder Ridge, only strengthens her desire to break free from her dark past and control her own destiny. But in a society where everything has a price tag, she discovers her body isn’t the only thing for sale. So is her life.

MY REVIEW

Wow!! I love this book series. The characters are troubled with fucked up family dynamics, but they slowly learn to trust and open their hearts. Harlot takes place about a year after Tramp with Lydia running Hush, Camilla taking over Lydia’s high-end clients, and the Ridge brothers revealing their family secrets. Meet Camilla and Wilder: the broken prostitute and the brooding muscle behind Ridge & Sons.

Camilla is a high-priced escort for the elite. Her clients range from dentists to chiropractors and she usually hooks up with them in their office. It’s not the life she would have picked for herself, but it is a far cry from her abusive past which stole her light. Lydia Montgomery owns Hush and is tough as they come considering her heartbreaking past, but she sees something in Camilla and becomes such a great friend and protector. In addition, the brooding Wilder Ridge is so in love with Camilla, but he feels she doesn’t deserve his dark and dangerous life so he continually pushes her away…until he gives in and vows to protect her with his life. But will his family choices get her killed?

I adore the dynamics between Talent, Lydia, Camilla, and Wilder. It proves family isn’t always by blood. They are brought together by dark and twisted circumstances and they find light in each other. Lydia and Camilla are both strong and resilient as they become sisters in turbulent times. Talent’s charm and Wilder’s brawn are so important to their survival, to keep their company together, and to keep their women out of danger.

This book explains the secrets Talent and Wilder are hiding which begin to interfere with everyone’s lives. The Coppola mafia family is starting to call in their debts and Lydia and Camilla are in the crossfire.

Wilder and Camilla’s story is beautiful as she tames the beast and he calms her darkness. The way Wilder loves and cares for Camilla is so swoon-worthy and what I look for in an anti-hero.

Make sure to read the whole series. Mary Elizabeth’s world-building is intriguing and her characters are complex. I am so stoked to read Criminal, Book 3 of the series.

Thank you to Mary Elizabeth for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mary ElizabethMary Elizabeth was born and raised in Southern California. She is a wife, mother of four beautiful children, and dog tamer to one enthusiastic Pit Bull and a prissy Chihuahua. She’s a hairstylist by day but contemporary fiction, new adult author by night.

Mary can often be found finger twirling her hair and chewing on a stick of licorice while writing and rewriting a sentence over and over until it’s perfect. She discovered her talent for tale-telling accidentally, but literature is in her chokehold. And she’s not letting go until every story is told.
