ABOUT THE BOOK
Her rugged prisoner
…becomes her fiercest protector
Capturing legendary Highlander Malcolm of Clan Colquhoun was Andreona’s last chance to win her tyrannical father’s respect. Instead he orders them both to be killed! Resigned to her devastating role as the family outcast, she and her prisoner escape and continue on his quest to return a treasured heirloom. They find solace in their unexpected passion, but haunted by a lifetime of betrayals, will either dare to hope it could last beyond their journey?
I have been a fan of Nicole Locke since I picked up Her Dark Knight’s Redemption a few years ago. The whole search for the Jewell of Kings is deadly and dangerous as we meet new and impassioned characters in each book filled with strong emotions and high intrigue. Ms. Locke writes beautiful historical love stories with emotionally and physically scarred characters.
Andreona is a woman on a mission to prove her worth to her thieving father. After being banished from her home she, along with her best friend and a handful of other banished women, build a small fortress. When she captures two outsiders, she has just the gift for her father to want her back, but unfortunately, at her father’s gate, her world comes tumbling down with the shocking truth. Her father wanted her killed not banished and her half-brother and best friends hid it from her. If it weren’t for the strong arms of the outsider, she would have collapsed under the betrayal. As she chooses to escape with her prisoner to return a treasured dagger to his home in Scotland, she finds comfort in his company, but is he too damaged to open his heart?
Malcolm is on a mission to find the legendary dagger that belonged to the Jewell of Kings which is at his home. When he and his friend literally fall into the hands of the very woman who can lead him to the dagger, he doesn’t expect to be intrigued by her tenacity and beauty. When he sees her betrayal firsthand by her family and friend, his heart goes out to her. After all, he has lived with betrayal for years. So when she wants to go with him to deliver the treasure, he lets her come along claiming it’s because of their similar circumstances but is it something deeper?
Malcolm and Andreona are two broken and suffering people who find peace in each other’s arms. Andreona’s life is destroyed when everything and everyone she believed in is a lie. Her strength to forgive is moving as she teaches Malcolm to do the same and find the happiness he lost so many years ago. I love Malcolm’s bravery, kindness, and protectiveness of Andreona. His attraction to her is instant with a simple accidental touch, but he keeps pulling away thinking she deserves better. It takes some time, but her love gives him hope for mending fences with his family who aren’t as bad as he claims.
This book is a slow-burn historical romance with two people who only wanted to be loved unconditionally. Their HEA is hard earned and worth waiting for.
Thank you to Ms. Locke for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother’s closet. Convinced hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them. It was only natural she should start writing them (but now not so secretly). If she isn’t working on the next book in her historical series, she can’t be found. No, seriously. Because she’s always working on the next story!
