Whispers of You (Lost & Found #1) by Catherine Cowles

ABOUT THE BOOK

One night—a single moment—cost me everything.

My body, broken beyond repair. The boy I’d thought was my forever. The life I’d always dreamt of.

Now, Holt’s back. And he’s no longer a boy, but a man with shadows in his eyes and demons haunting him.

He says he’s here to make things right. To get back a little bit of all we’ve lost. And he doesn’t show any signs of leaving the small town that has been my refuge.

As stolen moments turn to days, Holt’s around every corner. With his burning stare and lingering touches. Before long, my walls come crashing down and I’m just hoping that taking this second chance isn’t as reckless as it feels.

But not everyone is happy that Holt has returned. As tragedy strikes again, I’m the one left in the crosshairs. And Holt might not be able to save me this time…

MY REVIEW

I devoured this book! This emotionally charged story took me through a rollercoaster of events, leaving me breathless until the final, gripping conclusion.

Five funerals, six people in the hospital, and the third assailant never identified. The novel introduces us to Wren and Holt, two characters deeply scarred by a tragic event that took place a decade ago. Wren’s determination to rebuild her life and find solace in helping others as a police dispatcher is brave and admirable. Holt’s return to the town reignites a wave of emotions, including heartbreak and betrayal. I empathized with both Wren and Holt, torn between the hope to see them find happiness and the lingering pain of their past.

The fantastic network of relationships in the novel adds depth to the story. Holt’s journey to seek redemption and make amends for the pain he caused for so many people is a testament to the power of love and the human capacity for forgiveness. Holt’s talks with his dad had me tearing up.

Along with the romance is a riveting mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. The resurgence of murders in the small town puts Wren into a perilous situation. Holt’s unwavering dedication to protecting her and the nail-biting suspense surrounding the shocking identity of the villain is well done.

I loved watching Holt and Wren find their way back to each other. No one writes romantic suspense like Catherine Cowles. Her characters are relatable and her stories are beautiful and memorable. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
