ABOUT THE BOOK
The first time I saw her, I wanted her.
The second time I saw her, I knew she had to be mine.
Beautiful blonde hair. Cornflower-blue eyes. Body to die for.
All things I knew I couldn’t live without.
But after one night, she ghosted me, leaving me desperate for another taste.
I was usually the one to walk out the door before the morning light came.
This time, it was her, but not without becoming my obsession in the process.
Lily was a mystery.
She had a past shrouded in secrets she was unwilling to divulge.
She was running from something, and I was determined to find out what it was.
And once I did, I’d do anything to protect her.
They called me the sinner for a reason.
Because I wouldn’t hesitate to burn down the world or cross any line to save her.
MY REVIEW
The third installment of the Spade Hotel series gave me mixed emotions as I delved into the tumultuous love story of Lily and Brady. I normally can’t get enough of alpha holes (and I have read many), but Brady left much to be desired.
Lily is running for her life and sanity from a psycho ex who is terrorizing her and I empathized with her hopeless dilemma. Her turmoil and constant state of hiding while working as a flight attendant wrapped her in a sense of despair while appearing happy on the outside. The self-blame she harbors for the baggage she unintentionally brings upon her relationships is heartbreaking and very lonely.
Brady, initially depicted as a wealthy and angry individual, failed to resonate with me on a deeper level. The lack of adequate character development left me confused and unable to comprehend the root cause of his perpetual resentment. In addition, his predatory pursuit of Lily during her vulnerable state, though stemming from a desire to shield her from harm, appeared domineering and devoid of genuine affection. On the other hand, I am grateful he was able to fix Lily’s problem however oddly it played out.
The handling of Lily’s ex fell short of my expectations because it was rushed with no explanation for his motives. However, the camaraderie and unwavering support from family and friends provided a break from the heavy dynamics between Brady and Lily.
Don’t get me wrong. I love this series, I just wasn’t feeling the chemistry between Brady and Lily, and I was bummed about the anticlimactic ending.
Thank you to Ms. Mann for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
