Mountain Boss (Mountain Men #1) by S.J. Tilly

ABOUT THE BOOK

Courtney
I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.
But this new job…
It could be the fresh start I need.
It could change everything.
The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.
Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.
As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.
I feel hope.

Sterling
My new employee is late.
I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.
But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.
A woman straight from my damn dreams.
Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.
And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.
But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.
Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.
And I realize there’s been a mistake.
I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.
No. She can’t work for me. End of story.
Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.
Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.

MY REVIEW

I love S.J. Tilly’s books. They are so heartfelt and very sexy. This is book 1 of the Mountain Men series which I picked up because I am part of a blog tour later this month for book 2. It’s a sweet read with a grumpy/sunshine vibe.

Can I say how much I love the idea of a woman as a maintenance person? Courtney is a hard worker struggling to stay afloat. She’s alone and self-sufficient to the point of living on the bare essentials until she gets paid at the end of the month. My heart broke for her lonely existence, but I admired her strength and determination to tough everything out.

Sterling grudgingly lets Courtney stay even if it means she ends up bunking in the cozy laundry room with less than ideal accommodations. When he realizes the mix up about Courtney’s uncomfortable bunk bed and her meager belongings, he immediately feels like a shit for treating her badly and sweetly goes above and beyond to make it right. He comes across as all grumpy and a bit of a stalker, but he’s all mush underneath when it comes to Courtney.

The chemistry between Courtney and Sterling is absolutely electric. Their angry, flirty banter is refreshing, and watching them navigate their feelings was captivating. Each moment they shared felt both adorable and spicy, with enough swoon-worthy scenes to keep my heart fluttering.

Beyond the beautiful romance, were the lovely relationships throughout the book. Sterling’s crew has that endearing brotherly vibe that adds such a warm layer to the story. They each brought their own brand of humor and heart to the story, making it a real family affair.

If you need a feel-good story that you can devour in one sitting, this is definitely the book for you.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

S.J. TillyLike all her books, S.J. Tilly resides in the glorious state of Minnesota, where she was born and raised. To avoid the freezing cold winters, S.J. enjoys burying her head in books, whether to read them or write them or listen to them.

When she’s not busy writing her contemporary smut, she can be found lounging with her husband and their herd of rescue boxers. And when the weather permits she loves putting her compost to use in the garden, pretending to know what she’s doing. The neighbors may not like the flowery mayhem of her yard, but the bees sure do. And really, that’s more important.
